one day last week, i was bored at work, so i started to research the veto process of our government (love that introduction). i wasn't sure if it was a majority of congress to override a veto or if it was 2/3 vote. i looked it up, and good ol' wikipedia confirmed that it was 2/3 vote of each house. i continued to read and noticed something i either never knew before or i just plain forgot it since high school. apparently, after both houses of congress pass a bill, the president has 10 days to either sign it or reject it. if he doesn't reject it after 10 days, the bill automatically becomes law.
i'm sure people are secretly hoping that 1) he has a short attention span and he forgets or 2) he just doesn't know about it. in any case, now i know where blockbuster video got their "no more late fees" policy. after 2 weeks, if you don't return a video, you keep it and have to pay the difference from your rental fee. the same thing applies to government. if the president doesn't return the bill after 10 days, it's his forever. that's why i'm formally proposing the 28th amendment for the U.S. constitution. it doesn't change much; it just gives a proper title to that process. i don't see why it wouldn't pass since all i want is to call it "the blockbuster rule".
binghamton/oswego trip, 3 days and counting.
