today’s rant: drowning in a pool, originally 8/9/08

i don't know what the deal is with long islanders and pools, but since july, there have been tons of news stories about people dying accidentally in their own pools, children and adults alike.  um, piece of advice to everyone... stay out of the water.  until evolution gives us gills, we should respect the boundaries between land and water.  either that, or we should all go back to kindergarten and wear floaties on our arms.  the plus side to that is that all guys will pretend to be popeye or some other guy with bulging arms.  guys, don't act like you've never done that with floaties before when you were kids.  you're guilty of it just as much as i am.

i haven't heard any stories about people drowning at municipal pools.  they have lifeguards.  that's why they're there, because people fuck up and forget to come up from underwater to breathe.  so please, for your own sake, if you want to have fun with water at your own house, use a kiddie pool.  ok, maybe not.  have some real fun, build a waterslide out of some durable flat plastic and duct tape.  so how far you can launch yourself into the kiddie pool... or into the side of the garage.
