today’s rant: year in reflection, originally 12/31/07

so...what have i learned in these past 365 days?  hmm...

well, i've learned that the physics department at stony brook university is full of shit.  they do everything possible to graduation procedures to turn them into a cluster-fuck beyond measure.  for example, my graduation essay.  every physics student must write one that has something to do with their 3rd- or 4th- year classes.  then, said essay would be reviewed by the physics chairperson.  my idea was to write the essay having to do with a class that was taught by the chairperson.  i could cut out the middle man and give it straight to him.  how long did it take him to read it?  2 months.  why?  he took a leave of absence to work somewhere else on long island.

the physics department is also full of shit because two weeks after i graduated, i got an email from the interim chairperson saying that i was a few credits short of receiving my diploma.  i looked at my calendar, thought to myself "two weeks... fucking idiot", looked at my transcript, and saw he was wrong.  he didn't look at the grand total of college credits, after transfer credits are taken into account.  someone needs to take a math class or a reading class, because even my grandmother could've seen that the numbers were alright.

i've learned that it takes a hell of a long time to cut an album, even if there aren't any instruments.  5 months for the "changing tides" album to be completely finished.

i've learned that the best thing that britney spears can do at this point, for not only her benefit, but for us all, is to kill herself.

i have NOT learned who tila tequila or hanna montana are, nor do i plan on ever finding out.

i've learned that the george w. bush library that's going to be built after his presidency is mainly going to contain books of clifford, the big red dog, highlights magazines, and a glory hole in the men's room where alberto gonzales will be ready and willing to suck off bush, cheney, rumsfeld, ashcroft, and wolfowitz.  btw, alberto swallows.

the phrase "don't taze me, bro" does not work.

i've learned that i need to add more variety into my cooking.  i need to learn how to spice things up.

what have you learned?  what would you like to learn in 2008?
