today’s rant: poker, originally 11/15/07

this weekend, i am going to atlantic city.  i've never been to atlantic city before, so i'm not sure what to expect.  at the very least, the hotel i'm staying at isn't on an indian reservation where i can by all the cigarettes i want or lose my money back to the native americans.  while i'm there, i'm planning on enrolling in one of my hotel's daily texas hold'em poker tournaments.  any readers poker fans?  do i have any readers at all?

yes, i admit it.  i've laid back and watched poker on espn.  how else am i going to learn?  it's either that or watching fishing on tv, and i'm not that fucking pathetic.  my old roomie and i used to watch it during our off time from class in our dorm room.  it must've had some kind of positive effect because we dominated our hall at poker every week.  we'd get a game going of about 8 people each week.  no money was involved, otherwise the RHD would've eaten our asses off.  every time, either one of us would always be in the top three.  sometimes it was just us two going head-to-head.  we were poker gods.  we were texas holiath and river cardius, overlords of the poker domain.

someway or another, no matter how we tried to avoid it, there was this guy, zhao, who would make his way to the game.  yeah, he was chinese.  i'm not trying to be a racist, but this guy embodied every chinese stereotype when he was around us playing poker.  when he thought he had a good hand, he'd push his chips in and go "arr-rin".  the "l" sound was beyond him.  wookiees' throats were not made for human speech and zhao's throat was not made for the letter L.  sad but true.

when i get back from atlantic city, i'll probably make a rant about it.
